I still have some plants growing from last season. and some from seeds i grew earlier in the year namely
- 10 bunches of carrots
- 5 bunches of parsnips
- 5 suide
- 5 asparagus
- 10 pea plants
- 20 leeks
- courgettes
- 3 bags of potatoes
Courgettes
If you like courgettes find a local market and look for one selling veggy plants. I picked myself up a couple of courgette plants today, for £1.50 , each year i have grown courgettes, they need very little maintainence, and I always get around 30 courgettes per plant (bargain).
Tomatoes
Tomatoes ares starting to shoot up now too. Remember that at the end of the season once you have a nice few bunches, and you do not think there is much time let to ripen them, pinch the end of each stem, so the plant concentrates on ripening the tomatoes rather then growing bigger. If you suffer from tomato-fly. invest in some french marigolds which should keep them at bay.
If slugs are getting to your brascas (cabbage / brocolli / cauliflowers) then invest in some copper tape to put around your pots... or. get a couple of small terracotta pots, rest a plank between them, put your other pots on the plank, and wrap the tap around the small pots (so the slugs cant climb up onto the platform
