My baby is six months old, and up till now I have been on maternity leave. However On Monday I had to return to work, and Life has changed more then I thought it would.
My days had consisted of feeding my baby, playing with baby, and cooking and cleaning while he slept. Our daily plan was something along the lines of
However now at work our days consist of
- 7am - breastfeed in bed
- 9am - let baby have an hour nap, get up, hang out washing, clean myself, grab something to eat
- 10am - wake, wash and play with baby for a few hours.
- 11am - breast feed baby
- 12pm - let baby have a nap. clean rest of house, prepare things for dinner, grab something to eat. make up the next days nappies, sit down for 15mins on the internet with a cuppa
- 2:30pm - wake and breast feed baby, go for walk, or play in the garden.
- 4pm - put baby down for a nap, and prepare dinner
- 5pm wake and change baby, have dinner, then bath and breastfeed baby.
- 7pm put baby to bed, clear up dishes, then rest.
- 6am - grab a shower, pack away lunches, hang out washing (nappies) get dressed.
- 6:45am - breastfeed baby

- 11am - express milk at work
- 12pm - eat lunch
- 4pm - leave work, pick up baby, bring him home, and let him have a nap, sterilise bottles and expresser, prepare dinner, bring in washing off the line.
- 5pm wake and change baby, have dinner, then bath and breastfeed baby.
- 7pm put baby to bed. Do all the house work, make up the next days nappies, make the next days lunches. Set the table for breakfast, put that days nappies in the washing machine.
- 10pm express milk, sterilise bottles and expresser,
- 10:30pm BED
I must say that I am absolutly shattered, but its not as bad as I thought it would be. I have been doing things to make my life a little easier. I bulk cook to save time. And I hand over all of my babies lunches to the childminder on the monday for her to freeze. (she just the defrosts and warms up before feeding). I have been making a large quiche at the weekend for our lunches during the week. And slow-cooked meals organised in the morning, mean that we have a meal waiting for us when we get home. The thing I wasnt prepared for was the expressing. I have always in the past expressed with my baby near me. But expressing at work in a shower room, with people constantly knocking on the door, and the smokers outside chattering away does not make it an easy task, and it takes twice as long as it does at home. which is why I find myself having to do the second express at home, rather then doing 2 at work.
